Studies on the Wild Lycoris radiata HERB.

Abstract
This study was carried out to find out the artificial propagation method for the mass production of the Lycoris radiata HERB. The results obtained were as follows;
1. No. of bulblets was more in the outer part of the scale. But the development and hypertrophy plump were good in the middle part. The middle part had more contents of reducing sugar and starch than any other part. And the outer part had more nonreducing sugar and total sugar than any other part.
2. Bulblet formation and rooting were best in perlite.
3. The hot water treatment was very effective for the bulblet formation, rooting and leaf emergence compared with the control.
4. The curing at 25¡É for 5 days was very effective for the bulblet formation, and the curing at 30¡É for 5 or 6 days was effective for the growth of roots. The alternating temperature between 25¡É and 30¡É every 12 hours had good effect on bulblet formation and rooting.
5. Though bulblet formation was not affected by dark and light conditions, darkness had good effect on bulblet hypertrophy plump and rooting.
6. Notching method was better than scooping or coring in the bulblet formation and root growth. The ratio of bulblet formation was low in coring, and the bulblet hypertrophy plump was bad in scooping.
7. In notching, the bulb divided into two parts produced good rooting but bulblet formation was not good. The more times the bulb was divided, the higher was the bulblet formation ratio. The higher bulblet formation ratio was observed in the deep division status.
8. In notching, the more moulding the bulb had, the better were the bulblet formation and rooting. And better bulblet formation and rooting were observed when the cuttage-side was planted downward than upward.
